The original core feature of Nemp was the file management, which is still a central element.

Directories

Nemp can manage a list of directories that is scanned for new files at each startup. Of course, this only makes sense if the media library grows regularly and new files are added often. For more static music collections, it makes more sense to manually trigger the search for new files only when needed. When inserting directories for the first time, Nemp will ask if automatic monitoring should be activated, and/or if this question should be prompted again.

Similarly to scanning for new files, it is also possible to scan for missing files at startup, which are then automatically removed from the media library. If files are located on a drive that is currently unavailable, the files will remain in the media library. If a drive is connected while Nemp is running, the search for unavailable files for that drive will be repeated if necessary.

Playlists are also included in the media library. However, the individual files in these playlists are not included in the media library again separately. Some metadata may then be missing for display when browsing these playlists. The option "Examine files in playlists" examines the files in the currently selected playlist so that all metadata is available for display.

File types for the media library

Specify which file types (identified by the file extension) you want to include in the library. By default, everything that can be played is inserted. This unfortunately also includes mp4 files, but these are usually video files. Nemp also plays these files (mostly) but only audio, without video. If movies and music are stored in different directories, this is no problem. Otherwise exclude the file type mp4 from the media library if necessary.

Cover art

Configure where Nemp should search for matching covers to the files. For details see chapter Metadata - Cover.
